The North Devon Raiders have chosen SOS Children's Villages as their Charity for 2010.

Along with donating the secondary sponsorship of the Club to the charity, the club will be advertising the fund raising exploits of Barnstaple health visitor Inge Nickell and her climbing partner Jill Ackland who aim to raise £10,000 to be split between SOS Children's Villages and Jill's chosen charity Diabetes UK.

There will be collections at home games and charity events involving the Raiders leading up to the pair's attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro on September 24th. If you would like to support their efforts click on the links at the bottom of the page.


My name is Inge Nickell and I am so grateful for The North Devon Rugby League Club's support. On 24th September 2010, I will be pushing my limits both physically and mentally by climbing Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in aid of raising money for SOS Children's Villages.

I work as a Health Visitor and I feel very passionate about my work and about the welfare of children and their families. I have chosen to raise money for SOS Children's Villages; the world's largest orphan and abandoned children's charity, due to the amazing work they have carried out over the last 8 years. Child sponsors and donors worldwide provide a family and home for more than 78,000 children in 490 unique Children's Villages in 124 countries. Their goal for the next 8 years is to help a million child sponsors give a million children a family life. Of these, one hundred thousand will be given a new family and home in an SOS Children's Village and nine thousand, who might otherwise be street children, will be able to grow up within their own (extended) family with support.

The sponsors and donors help children whose parents are not there for them. They may be AIDS orphans, street children, child soldiers or children orphaned by war, poverty or natural disasters. The money raised through my climb will help pay to build the Villages and run them until child sponsors cover the costs.
